Lead Line Replacement Program

WPJWA’s lead replacement program will help ensure the safety of drinking water for all residents. In this program, the water authority takes responsibility for replacing both public and private lead service lines at no cost to homeowners. This comprehensive approach addresses a major barrier to lead line replacement—the cost—by removing financial burdens from residents and ensuring equitable access to clean, safe drinking water.

The replacement process involves a detailed assessment of service lines to identify any that contain lead. Once identified, the water authority coordinates with homeowners to replace the lines seamlessly, minimizing disruption to daily life. Our program will replace both public infrastructure and private property.

The Authority is currently starting on Phase 3. Customers can check if they have lead (or Galvanized) service lines by clicking Quick Links and Service Line Inventory. Any customer with lead lines that is interested should call our engineer, MS Consultants, at 412-264-8701 and ask for Sandy or send an email to wilkpennlead@msconsultants.com. Prior to being accepted into Phase 3, an agreement allowing access to the meter and a review of the meter location will need to be completed. The agreement and general information on the program can be reviewed by clicking here. (Agreement and General Information)

Beyond the immediate health benefits, the program also represents an investment in long-term infrastructure improvement and community trust. By proactively tackling the issue of lead contamination, the water authority not only safeguards current residents but also ensures safer water for future generations.
